Medal of Arts Award

History & Purpose:The Medal of Arts honors and recognizes a person who, or organization that, has contributed visibly and actively to the cultural life of Northeast Indiana, particularly in Auburn and the DeKalb County community. It is awarded annually by the Auburn Arts Commission, Inc. 

The award was initiated by the Auburn Arts Commission, Inc. (formerly The Arts & Humanities Commission) in October of 1992, and the first award was given in May of 1993.

Jame

The Auburn Arts Commission Inc. recognized Jane Kempf of Auburn for her work as a journalist and author when it presented her with its 2009 Medal of Arts award.

Categories: The recipient must be accomplished in one or more of the five following categories:

  1. Artist: (any or all mediums, including photography)
  2. Author: (writer, historian, researcher, journalist, etc.)
  3. Drama & Theater: (producer, director, playwright, dancer, performer, etc.)
  4. Music: (performer, composer, conductor, etc.)
  5. *Patron of the Arts: a person whose ideas,personal participation, organizing skills, and/or encouragement has supported and promoted the arts in the community. (To only have donated money does not qualify a person for this distinction.)
  6. *May be a group or organization.

 

Requirements:

  1. Person must have resided/worked in Auburn or adjacent area 15-20 years.
  2. Be professionally recognized by peers, locally, regionally, and/or nationally as an accomplished member of the artistic community.
  3. * Cannot have received the Medal of Arts award for five years.
  4. * Cannot be a member of the Arts Commission at the time the award is given.
  5. * Requirements may be modified by a two-thirds vote of the membership of Auburn Arts Commission, Inc.
